Algeria takes a decisive step in the field of telecommunications with the approval of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the deployment of 5G, by ordering thorough studies on this technology and thus emphasizing the importance of rigorous preparation for this major project.
During last Monday’s Council of Ministers meeting, the President ordered more comprehensive studies on fifth generation (5G) mobile network technology.
This strategic decision highlights the government’s commitment to deploying 5G in a way that is not only technologically advanced but also economically viable and beneficial for the country. According to the Council’s statement, the primary goal is to ensure that the operation is “comprehensive and effective by all technological and financial standards.”
With this approach, the government aims to maximize the benefits of 5G on the development and support of the national economic system while offering citizens the best technological services available.
This announcement follows a communication during the government meeting of 19 March 2025, which had already highlighted the preparations for the project to launch 5G mobile networks.
In this respect, the role of 5G was highlighted as “a key lever for economic and industrial development in Algeria,” capable of significantly improving access to digital public services and accelerating the country’s digital transformation.
The imminent arrival of 5G in Algeria represents a genuine technological revolution. With its ultra-high speeds, low latency, and mass connectivity capacity, it represents a major advancement for digital infrastructure.
5G is expected to pave the way for innovative strategic applications in vital sectors, such as agriculture, industry, health, transport, and education.
From this standpoint, embracing 5G technology is viewed as crucial for establishing Algeria as a regional leader in information and communication technologies.
Indeed, 5G is expected to boost the national economy and innovation, especially in fields like the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and smart cities.
Moreover, the deployment of 5G is also expected to create new job opportunities, strengthen existing digital infrastructure, improve industrial competitiveness, and meet the growing demand for connectivity.
To ensure a successful implementation, 5G will be deployed “gradually,” thereby “ensuring the financial sustainability of operators and optimizing investment costs” associated with this significant technological shift.
