Counter-terrorism: 13 terrorist supporters arrested in one week

Thirteen terrorist supporters were arrested by detachments of the People’s National Army nationwide from 20 to 26 April, the Ministry of the National. Defense said Wednesday in an operational report.

“As part of the efforts aimed to fight against terrorism and multiform organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army conducted from 20 to 26 April, several operations that culminated in quality results reflecting the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our Armed Forces nationwide,” said the source.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army arrested 13 terrorist supporters in various operations nationwide,” said the source.

“As part of the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the National Army arrested, in coordination with the different security services at the level of the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, six drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs through the border with Morocco, amounting to 2 quintals and 70kg of cannabis resin,” added the source, pointing out that “16 other drug traffickers were arrested possessing 148kg of the same substance as well as 56,076 psychotropic tablets were seized in various operations conducted in the other Military Regions,” underlined the source.

“Detachments of the People’s National Army intercepted, in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf, 480 individuals and seized 25 vehicles, 110 generating sets, 60 pneumatic drills, 8 metal detectors, quantities of explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations, as well as 14 tonnes of a mix of gold and stones,” while “12 other individuals were arrested and 8 shotguns, 353485 tobacco packets and 104 tonnes of foodstuffs destined to smuggling were seized in El-Oued, Ouargla, Biskra, Setif and In Guezzam.”

“Border Guards foiled attempts to smuggle quantities of fuel amounting to 51489 liters Tebessa, El-Tarf, Souk Ahras, Tamanrasset and El-Oued,” added the source.

“Coast Guards thwarted attempts of illegal migration and rescued 101 individuals aboard makeshift boats,” while “254 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested in Djanet, Tlemcen, Illizi, El-Bayadh and Bechar,” concluded the source.
