Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Atty, praised this Thursday Algeria’s significant role in advancing Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue, through its position on the United Nations Security Council.
Speaking after a meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to whom he delivered a letter from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, Abdel-Atty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for “Algeria’s pivotal role in championing Arab rights and causes, including the Palestinian cause, from its seat on the Security Council.”
During the meeting, discussions focused on Arab efforts to counter attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause, said the Egyptian minister. “I commended Algeria’s stance in support of our Palestinian brothers, their right to remain on their land, and their resistance against forced displacement,” he added.
Abdel-Atty noted that he listened to President Tebboune’s perspectives on Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people at all levels. He also briefed the president on Egypt’s recent efforts, in collaboration with Qatar and the United States, to halt the unjust aggression against the resilient Palestinian people in Gaza and alleviate their suffering by working toward reinstating the ceasefire agreement reached on January 19.
The meeting also addressed the Arab-Islamic plan for reconstructing Gaza following a ceasefire, Abdel-Atty said. He informed President Tebboune of Egypt’s intention to host the Cairo International Conference on Reconstruction to implement this plan.
He highlighted the alignment between Algeria and Egypt on the need for greater efforts to achieve security, stability, and peace in the region, given the rapid developments in the Middle East, the Arab world, and Africa.
Regarding bilateral cooperation, Abdel-Atty recalled President Tebboune’s visit to Egypt in October, praising the discussions between the two leaders, which underscored “the vital and exceptional nature of bilateral relations and the deep historical ties uniting Algeria and Egypt and their fraternal peoples.”
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to elevating bilateral relations to new heights across all sectors and reviewed development partnerships between the two nations. Abdel-Atty added that preparations were discussed for the upcoming Algerian-Egyptian Joint High Commission, set to convene in Cairo this year.
Additionally, Abdel-Atty congratulated Algeria on its election as a member of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council.
