UN. Security Council : Algeria calls for international inquiry into crimes committed in Ghaza

Calling for an international commission of inquiry to shed light on all the crimes committed by the Zionist entity in the Palestinian territories, Algeria said on Tuesday that those responsible for these crimes should be held to account. “It is imperative to set up an international commission to investigate all allegations (of crimes) relating to the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Every innocent life lost deserves to be transparently and independently investigated”, argued Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, in New York. Speaking at a Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, Mr. Bendjama affirmed Algeria's demand that the perpetrators of the crimes committed in Ghaza during the Zionist aggression, “whoever they may be, must be held to account”. “For Algeria, there are absolutely no double standards. Every innocent life must be protected. This principle lies at the heart of international humanitarian law, which protects civilians, particularly women and children, during armed conflicts”, he recalled. “We believe in justice that knows no borders. No one is above the law, and no one should enjoy impunity”, he added. “Nearly 18,000 children have been killed in Ghaza. Don't they deserve an independent investigation and accountability?” he asked. The Algerian diplomat added that 8,000 innocent women, 1,000 health workers and more than 200 journalists had fallen as martyrs in Ghaza, wondering, again, whether all these victims did not deserve an international investigation.
