The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced on Friday at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that Algeria had decided to make a voluntary contribution of one million dollars to support the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).
“On the basis of Algeria's commitment to supporting the APRM and enabling it to carry out its missions, my country has decided to make a voluntary contribution of one million dollars to support the review process, in execution of the conclusions arising from it”, declared the President of the Republic in an address delivered during his chairmanship of the work of the 34th Summit of APRM Heads of State and Government, in his capacity as Chair of this Mechanism.
Emphasizing that “today's meeting is an essential step in promoting governance and pursuing action to achieve lasting solutions to the challenges facing the continent”, the President of the Republic reaffirmed “Algeria's commitment, as a founding member of the APRM, to play its part in meeting current challenges, particularly with regard to the establishment of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and the promotion of social justice and human rights”.
These challenges, adds the President of the Republic, “dictate that we work in a spirit of solidarity and responsibility to overcome the financial difficulties that limit the APRM's ability to achieve the noble objectives for which it was created”.
