
The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, held talks in Johannesburg on Friday with a number of his counterparts from countries taking part in the G20 ministerial meeting, according to a Ministry press release.
Mr. Ahmed Attaf met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Wang Yi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Hakan Fidan, the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Mr. Subrahmanyam Jaish. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Mr. Espen Barth Eide, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Cho Tae-yul, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Takeshi Iwaya, according to the press release.
Mr. Attaf discussed with his Chinese counterpart ways of achieving further positive results by strengthening the strategic partnership between Algeria and China, notably by consolidating cooperation in economic fields, and pursuing joint coordination and mutual support within the UN Security Council and international forums”, according to the same source.
The Minister of State also reviewed with his Turkish counterpart the different axes and dimensions of the privileged cooperation between the two countries, ahead of the 3rd session of the Joint Planning Commission, and discussed developments in the situation in the Middle East, and the Palestinian question in particular”, adds the press release.
During the meeting with his Indian counterpart, the two ministers welcomed the positive momentum in relations between the two countries in recent years.
On this occasion, the two sides explored the possibility of taking advantage of the forthcoming meeting of the Joint Governmental Committee to further promote bilateral relations, given the potential of both countries.
With his Norwegian counterpart, Minister Ahmed Attaf discussed “ways of maintaining the momentum of economic cooperation between the two countries”, reviewing “international efforts in favor of the two-state solution, as the basis for a just and final settlement of the Palestinian question”.
The Minister of State's talks with the Korean Foreign Minister also provided an opportunity to review the outstanding results of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic and technological fields.
The two sides also stressed the need to pursue cooperation within the UN Security Council, notably within the framework of the Elected Members Group (E10).
Lastly, Minister Ahmed Attaf reviewed with his Japanese counterpart ways of capitalizing on the advantages and strengths of both countries, with a view to raising Algerian-Japanese relations to even higher levels, notably following the activation of the bilateral joint economic committee.
