Algeria's ambassador to Addis Ababa and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Selma Malika Haddadi, described her victory on Saturday as Vice-Chairwoman of the AU Commission as a new achievement for Algeria under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
“This is an achievement for Algeria under the far-sighted leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” Mrs. Haddadi told APS following her landslide victory over her Moroccan competitor, expressing her gratitude to the President of the Republic as well as to the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, for the trust placed in her person.
“I will be a worthy representative of Algeria at the African Union”, she assured.
Mrs. Haddadi added that this election reflected “Algeria's place and depth in Africa, but also testifies to the confidence placed by African countries in her and her judicious leadership”, stressing that Algeria “has always played a leading role within the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and now within the African Union (AU). We will continue this work to raise its name and flag through our far-sighted leadership of the organization, both administratively and financially. We will always live up to expectations.
The Vice-Chairwoman of the AU Commission also affirmed that this position “is very important and enables the African Union to implement Agenda 2063, including the ‘silence the guns’ initiative”, adding that she would work towards this goal with the entire AU Commission team.
