Algeria urges the UN Security Council to sanction the Zionist entity for its crimes

The Security Council should no longer content itself with counting the martyrs in Ghaza, but rather take action and impose sanctions on the Zionist entity for its crimes, declared Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, on Tuesday at a Security Council meeting devoted to the situation in the “Middle East, including the Palestinian question”. “That's not what the Security Council was created for”, said Bendjama, who called on the Security Council to use the legal tools at its disposal against the Zionist occupying power, ‘including sanctions’.“The Security Council must assume its responsibilities by dealing with the root causes of the Palestinian question, namely the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories”, he asserted.

“It has been 311 days that our Council has been scorned at a time when an entire population is being subjected to collective punishment,” the diplomat said.“Last Saturday, the world woke up to learn that another tragedy had taken place during the night”, he stressed, referring to the bombing of the Al-Tabeene school in the El-Daraj neighborhood of Ghaza, which left more than 100 people martyred. It was precisely around this massacre that the “emergency public” meeting of the Security Council was held on Tuesday at Algeria's request.

Bendjama pointed out that the UN Secretary-General had clearly stated that the school housed refugees. “This is the third school targeted by the occupiers in two days,” he said.“These crimes and the previous ones would not have been possible without the military and financial aid provided to the Zionist aggressor”, he maintained.“More than 100 victims, including women and children, were added to the nearly 40,000 Palestinian martyrs. Weren't these martyrs human beings? Didn't they have dreams and hope, like the rest of us?

The Algerian representative also pointed out that the Zionist entity was deliberately obstructing Security Council Resolution 2735 calling for an immediate ceasefire in Ghaza.“Algeria warns against this continued sabotage in the face of efforts by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to implement this resolution”, he said, recalling Algeria's support for the mediation efforts of these three countries.“We can't complicate negotiations by adding new conditions every time”, he asserted, pointing to the Zionist entity's proven unwillingness.“Our inaction is costing human lives and threatening the fate of the Palestinian people”, he warned.
