The 38th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) Summit, held in Addis Ababa, ended with the adoption of reports and several decisions and declarations.
The two-day event, which saw the participation of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, alongside African leaders at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) under the theme “Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations”, defined Africa's priorities for the year 2025 and beyond, as well as the mechanisms for implementing Agenda 2063.
The Summit was punctuated by the election of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Djibouti's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, to replace the previous Chadian Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the election of Algeria's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Malika Haddadi, as Vice-Chairperson of the Commission, after a landslide victory over her Moroccan rival.
At this session, Algeria also announced a voluntary financial contribution of one million USD to support the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), an announcement made by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the 34th Summit of APRM Heads of State and Government, held on Friday under his presidency.
A memorandum of understanding on voluntary financial contributions to promote good governance in Africa was signed by Selma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, and Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, Executive Director of the APRM Continental Secretariat.
