The Algerian karate has experienced a first day of competition, quite exceptional to say the least. Of the six athletes who entered the competition, five reached the final for a considerable harvest of 4 gold medals and one silver.
A first in the history of Algerian karate in the World Games. It is especially the women who have shone. In a room boiling, Cylia Ouikene offered to Algeria its first medal in this 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games of Oran-2022. A gold medal won thanks to its crushing victory (5-0) against the Egyptian Rim Salama, in the category -50kg. The bronze went to the Moroccan Elhayati Chaimae and the Spanish Pinilla Sachez. His teammate Louisa Abouriche did the same by disposing of the Egyptian Ahlam Youssef (4-1), in the category -55kg. The Italian Veronica Brunori and the Turkish Yakan Tugba took the bronze of the competition. In the category of -61kg, Chaima Midi was distinguished in a very close match against the Tunisian Mahdjoub Wafa. The Algerian won in the last seconds by 3 to 2. The Italian Mangiacapra Alisia and the Kosovar Sipovic Nejra finished in third place.
In boys, Oussama Zaid beat, not without great difficulty, the Egyptian Abdallah Abdelaziz, in the category -75 kg, by the narrow score of 5 to 4. The Italian Busa Luigi and the Kosovar Turulja Hamza have won the bronze. For his part, Ala Salmi was less lucky. The Algerian athlete lost to the formidable Turkish Samdan Eray, in the category -60kg (0-5). He is thus satisfied with the silver. The Egyptian Aboukora Amir and the French Meziane Rayan completed the podium. Other medals will follow today, with the entry of four other Algerian karatekas.
