
The coach of Algeria's national football team, Djamel Belmadi, said Monday he was willing to extend his contract "at least until the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2023," in Ivory Coast (June 23 – July 23).
"My contract runs until 2022, but with Algeria, it is more than a moral one," Belmadi told French radio station RMC, adding that he was "willing to remain (with the Algerian national team) at least until the CAN 2023."
After three weeks of reflection, Belmadi announced on April 24 his decision to continue his adventure with the national team despite the failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
"We have to question ourselves every day in victory as in defeat. The challenge of recovering, becoming strong again and winning back what we have lost is important to me," the national coach said.
"The disillusionment after the failure to qualify for the World Cup was great, especially as we have been working together for four years and had set a number of goals.
