Olympic Games 2024: President of the Republic honors medal-winning athletes

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, honored on Wednesday at the Palais d'El-Mouradia (Algiers) the medal-winning athletes of the Olympic Games (Paris-2024), which wrapped up last Sunday.

“The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, honored Algeria's medal-winning athletes at the Olympic Games (Paris-2024) today, namely Imane Khelif (gold medal), Kaylia Nemour (gold medal) and Djamel Sedjati (bronze medal), by awarding them medals from the Order of National Merit, as well as financial rewards, in the presence of their families”, says a press release from the President of the Republic.

The award ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (PNA), the Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, the Private Secretary to the President of the Republic, the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, the Minister of Youth and Sport, the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), and the athletes' families and coaches.

The Algerian delegation taking part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games had returned to Algiers on Monday, where they were welcomed at Houari Boumediene airport by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Abderrahmane Hammad, accompanied by civilian and military officials.

The precious metal medals went to Kaylia Nemour on the uneven bars (gymnastics) and Imane Khelif in women's boxing (66 kg), and Djamel Sedjati's bronze medal in the 800 metres, the first such achievement since Atlanta (USA) in 1996.

Algeria took part in the Paris Olympics with a delegation of 46 athletes (27 men and 19 ladies) in 15 different disciplines.
