Human Rights Council : Adoption of two resolutions on Palestine

Two resolutions on Palestine (Right to self-determination and Illegality of settlements) were adopted on Friday by the United Nations Human Rights Council, following its 49th session in Geneva.

The adoption by the Human Rights Council of the two resolutions by a large majority, "is a positive sign and a step towards the right path to prove that international law should not be divided," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyadh Al-Maliki, in a statement.

"International law must be applied in order for our people to obtain their rights," added Mr A-Maliki, and to hold the Zionist entity "accountable" for its crimes against humanity, especially war crimes and apartheid.

According to the same source, 38 countries voted in favour of the resolution on the illegality of settlements, five countries abstained and four voted against, while 41 countries voted in favour of "the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination", for which three countries abstained, and three others voted against.

The head of Palestinian diplomacy praised the Member States who voted overwhelmingly in favour of both resolutions.

He also emphasized the need to ban the products of the colonies, to stop commercial and military transactions and all the services or funds that promote this colonial system, because it violates the rules of international law.

Mr. Al-Maliki insisted on the implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy and the protection of the Palestinian people.
