A united stance

The latest developments in the current situation of the Arab nation and the Palestinian issue dominated much of the discussions at the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union congress. Significant support was expressed for all efforts to adopt a unified Arab stance on the Palestinian issue, with numerous appeals voiced for collective action to advance the Palestinian cause. The focus was particularly on strengthening the role of parliamentarians as an effective mechanism to amplify the voice of the people and intensify efforts in support of the Palestinian cause. There was also a call for immediate action to halt the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip. A strong condemnation was issued against the forced displacement of Palestinians from the enclave and other regions of Palestine. These calls echo those of other global organizations advocating for the opening of humanitarian corridors and ensuring unhindered delivery of aid. Further actions are expected to meet the challenges faced by the Palestinian people, who are enduring a genocidal war. The blockade, famine, and crimes against humanity—committed in plain sight amid deafening global silence—are among the atrocities perpetrated by the colonialists. Only the complete liberation of the occupied territories can equate to victory. Following the sacrifices made for liberation, support for reconstruction efforts is essential. These are critical actions in defense of the Palestinian people’s rights, which are being violated. The humanitarian situation is beyond imagination, as denounced by several organizations, including those affiliated with the United Nations, which are alarmed by the consequences of the blockade that has led to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. Proposals continue to be put forward for an immediate ceasefire, a necessary condition to alleviate Palestinian suffering. States and global organizations like the UN and the Security Council have persistently tried to contribute to resolving the conflict. To anchor Palestine in global debates, there has also been a proposal to work toward granting the State of Palestine full membership status at the UN. But is this sufficient to end the massacres and the genocidal war waged against the Palestinian people?
