
The Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, received in Algiers on Sunday the World Bank (WB) Vice President in charge of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Ousmane Dione, with whom he examined ways and means of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the sector, according to a Ministry press release.
The meeting with Mr. Dione and the accompanying delegation took place at the Ministry's headquarters, in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, in charge of Mines, Ms. Karima Tafer, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, in charge of Renewable Energies, Mr. Noureddine Yassaâ, and Ministry executives.
The two parties discussed “opportunities for cooperation between Algeria and the World Bank, particularly in terms of exchanging expertise and technical assistance in current and future projects for the development of renewable energies and energy efficiency, in addition to projects in the mining sector”, according to the press release.
On this occasion, Mr. Arkab highlighted the main points and thrusts of the sector's energy and mining development program, affirming that Algeria was working to diversify the resources of the national economy, in line with the Government's action plan.
The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the “fruitful” results achieved by the sector in terms of cooperation with the World Bank to date, calling for this to be strengthened in the field of renewable energies and the development of mining resources, which are among the Government's priorities.
For his part, Mr. Dione welcomed the meeting as an opportunity to learn more about the prospects for development of the energy, mining and renewable energies sector in Algeria, particularly in terms of diversification of energy sources and mining sector development programs, welcoming the convergence of views and policies between Algeria and the WB, according to the Ministry's press release.
