
Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, met this Sunday with Suzuki Kotaro, Ambassador of Japan to Algeria, to discuss enhancing cooperation in the energy and mining sectors, the Algerian Ministry of Energy said in a statement.
During the talks, the parties discussed the possibility of strengthening the Algerian-Japanese partnership in the fields of energy, mining and renewable energy, stressing the long and strong historical ties of both countries.
The talks focused on new cooperation opportunities, particularly in the hydrocarbon sector, such as exploration activities and field development, as well as in the renewable energy sector, including solar energy, hydrogen development and energy storage.
Minister Arkab stressed the importance of Japanese companies' participation in these strategic projects, highlighting Algeria's major development programs in the energy, mining and renewable energy sectors. He also stressed the need for knowledge transfer, training, technological advancement and local production of equipment, particularly in the fields of renewable energy and seawater desalination.
In addition to Algeria's major mining projects aimed at boosting the national economy, the meeting also paid special attention to cooperation in the mining sector, focusing on opportunities for the exploration and exploitation of rare minerals and rare earth elements.
The Japanese ambassador praised the favorable investment climate and the wealth of opportunities, particularly in the hydrocarbon, mining and renewable energy sectors, and expressed the strong interest of Japanese companies in investing in Algeria. He reaffirmed Japan's commitment to promoting cooperation in these areas for the benefit of both countries.
